She has seen firsthand how music experience creates connection between people of different abilities and different backgrounds while creating change and transformation. Working with people with autism, mental health issues, cancer and physical impairments, developmental disabilities, and neurological disorders has given her a unique insight in the human experience and the beauty of all. She is committed to advancing music therapy into new settings, providing music therapists with a supportive and diverse professional career, and mentoring new graduates and business owners.
A graduate of University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music in Stockton, CA, Tara is a Sacramento native and fourth generation Californian. As an adult she found her love of songwriting, playing guitar and encouraging others to find their voice. She currently serves as the Executive Director and CEO of MMTS, Inc. while supporting the Sutter Health team as the Sophie's Place Coordinator.
Tara actively supports music therapy professional advocacy as past-chair of the CA Music Therapy Task Force - advocating for state recognition for the MT-BC credential 2010-2018.
