Clinical Training

McConnell Music Therapy Services currently serves children, adolescents, and adults through private practice music therapy services in our clinic locations and through in-home visits throughout the greater Sacramento region. We maintain an affiliation with the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, providing clinical experiences for fieldwork students and music therapy interns.

Interns at MMTS gain hands-on experience working with clients across a wide range of diagnoses, abilities, and support needs in both individual and small-group settings. Clinical training includes opportunities to provide services in our Fair Oaks clinic location as well as in clients' homes, allowing students to develop flexibility and confidence across a variety of therapeutic environments.

Throughout their internship, students receive individualized supervision and mentorship while developing skills in assessment, treatment planning, documentation, session facilitation, caregiver collaboration, and ethical clinical practice. Interns also gain experience adapting evidence-based music therapy interventions to meet the unique strengths and needs of each client.

In addition to clinical training, MMTS introduces interns to the business and operational aspects of private practice. Students learn about scheduling, client communication, funding pathways, community outreach, and practice management under the guidance of Tara McConnell, MT-BC, founder and owner of MMTS, who has more than 25 years of experience in private practice music therapy.
